He is specialised in the application of quantitative methods in forest planning, numerical optimisation techniques and development of information systems to support the decision making process in forest planning. He is currently Professor of Forest Management Planning at the University of Joensuu, Finland. He has published more that 100 scientific articles in refereed international journals and about 100 other scientific articles. Mr. Xavier Ballabriga has a Master degree in Business administration. Master in Accounting and Auditoria. He has a long experience in strategic business management consulting that he has performed through his own consulting company. Mr. Ballabriga has been part of the Board of the saving bank La Caixa de Pensions (1996-1999) and he was the Director General for Rural Development in the Government of Catalonia (1999-2003). within the forestry sector he founded and chair the Forest Technology Centre of Catalonia during the period 1996-2004.
