The purpose of forest
planning is to show the optimal way to utilize forest resources
so that the benefit of the forest owner is maximised. The complexity
of the current level of computational technology and methodological
knowledge justify the use of quantitative methods that are based
on simulation and optimisation. These systems can address the complex
management planning problems encountered in multifunctional forestry.
A modern information
system for forest planning contains sub-systems
for data management, simulation
of stand development, combinatorial optimisation
and visualisation of forested
landscapes. These systems are used in a flexible and interactive
way to support the decision-making in the best possible way.
Our planning system MONTE is fully functional in Catalonian forests. Through the development of new growth and yield models it gradually becomes available in the whole of Spain. MONTE has been programmed in such a way that it can be easily adapted to any country. |
